Frequently Asked Questions

Who is welcome?

All are welcome regardless of church affiliation – or no church affiliation – faith tradition – or no faith tradition. And we mean all ! Brown, Black, White, Yellow, young, old, single, married, divorced, gay, straight, republican, democrat, – whatever you are – you will be welcome here. No matter your gifts, abilities or struggles: Come as you are.

Where is Our Saviour Lutheran? And where do I park? And accessibility?

Our Saviour Lutheran Church is located at 90-04 175 St. in Jamaica, Queens (see map) For all worship events, you are invited to park on 90th Avenue directly across from the church – Despite the “No Parking Anytime” signs, the DOT has graciously allowed us to utilize this area for major church events, including funerals and weddings. Unfortunately, we are NOT handicapped accessible. If you need help getting into our building, please contact the church office.

What to Wear?

People dress casually at Our Saviour Lutheran and others dress up a little – The most important thing is to wear what makes you comfortable and not to let your clothing keep you away from the celebration.

Worship

We worship three times on a Sunday morning – 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM and Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM

Each worship service is identical in feel. Our worship is what we call a “blended” worship which includes worship pieces that are more traditional and worship pieces that are more contemporary. We have tried to create a worship experience that anyone can be a part of, even if you just walked through our doors for the first time.

Will I know what to do?

Our bulletins/worship folders contain the all elements you will need to follow worship.

What about offering?

After the sermon, the offering plate is passed. Offering is part of our worship, part of our response to God’s love and mercy. No one should feel compelled to give – giving is always a blessing. Let the Holy Spirit and your own circumstances guide you.

I have kids…sometimes they are noisy …where do they fit in?

ALL children are encouraged and welcomed to attend and participate in worship. We genuinely enjoy having children in the worship service. Their talking, singing and playing are music to God’s ears. However, if you feel you need some one on one time with God, we do have an area outside the worship space where you can take the kids for quiet time.

Eating at Jesus Table – Holy Communion

We have communion every Sunday. Jesus Christ is the host at the communion table. All are welcome regardless of church affiliation. The pastor distributes bread and wine to everyone at the table – if you do not wish to receive the wine, you may simply cross your arms for a blessing. Children who have not yet received their First Communion instruction are invited to share in the bread and receive a blessing.

Sunday School

We have Sunday School for all ages at 10 AM.
